Welcome to Penistone Ladies Choir!
Penistone Ladies Choir was formed in 1986 in the market town of Penistone, on the south-eastern edge of the Pennines in South Yorkshire.
Under the leadership of our Musical Director, Jane Hobson, we have grown over the past year to over 40 members. We enjoy singing a wide repertoire of songs from classical, religious, folk and contemporary styles, all ably accompanied by Yvonne Woffenden, the Choir's accompanist of many years.
We rehearse every Monday evening from 7.45 pm to 9.45 pm at St John's Community Centre, Penistone. We enjoy a busy schedule of rehearsals, concerts, fundraisers, with the occasional competition and trip away. If you'd like to sing with us, come along on any Monday evening to join in or just listen.
We've enjoyed considerable success in festivals recently, winning two first places in the Colne Luther Greenwood Memorial Festival in November '16, three third places last April, at the National Choir Day at the Eskdale Festival of the Arts in Whitby. In September 2015, we won the Jack Jubb Memorial Trophy at the Penistone Competitive Music Festival, and achieved success at the Biddulph and Moorlands 51st Music Festival in the Choral Recital class.
We'd like to thank our musical director, Jane Hobson, and our accompanist, Yvonne Woffenden for their never ending enthusiasm and committment... Thanks also to the stiff opposition for making us work so hard!
