Welcome to Penistone Ladies’ Choir

Penistone Ladies Choir was formed in 1986 in the market town of Penistone, on the south-eastern edge of the Pennines in South Yorkshire.

Under the leadership of our Musical Director, Jane Hobson, we have grown rapidly over the past year to over 50 members. We enjoy singing a wide repertoire of songs from classical, religious, folk and contemporary styles, all ably accompanied by Yvonne Woffenden, the Choir’s accompanist of many years.

We rehearse every Monday evening from 7.45 pm to 9.45 pm at St John’s Community Centre, Penistone. We enjoy a busy schedule of rehearsals, concerts, fundraisers, with the occasional competition and trip away. If you’d like to sing with us, come along on any Monday evening to join in or just listen.

Our thanks as always to our ever-enthusiastic musical director, Jane Hobson, and our superbly talented accompanist, Yvonne Woffenden for their never ending committment… Thanks also to the stiff opposition for making us work so hard!

Lets get social

Wow these are certainly shiny. They are the two trophies that we won at the Eskdale competition in Whitby last April. We entered two classes: the Christmas In April class & the Ladies Choir class and we won first in both! What a day for us... Unfortunately they have to go back, so our Secretary Ann has been polishing them up ready for this year's winners. We won't be bringing them home again this year as we are not going to Whitby this year, but we'll be back another year for sure!
Good luck all!
Our thanks to Bill Coles for the photographs.

Our last f/b post was on 14th December, last year, posted during our annual Christmas Charity Concert, when we joined forces with Millhouse Green Male Voice Choir. We had agreed to donate the proceeds from the concert to the Yorkshire Children's Trust, a small Yorkshire Charity, helping local children. We were delighted to raise £455 for the charity and so we invited the founder of the charity, Simon Widdop, to come to our AGM & rehearsal to both accept the cheque and hear a little bit of music. He gave a very moving speech with his personal reasons for setting the charity up. Here is a photo of him accepting the cheque, along with Jane Hobson (our MD); Margaret Christian (our Chair) and Melvyn Dyson (our President, who was also a member of Millhouse Green male Voice Choir for many years).
Many thanks to Bill Coles for coming along to take photos of the event.
