About Us
Penistone Ladies Choir was formed in 1986 in the market town of Penistone, on the south-eastern edge of the Pennines in South Yorkshire.
We are an exciting award-winning ladies choir with over 40 members. We enjoy singing a wide repertoire of songs from classical, religious, folk and contemporary styles. We rehearse every Monday evening from 7.30 pm to 9.30pm at St John’s Community Centre, Penistone. We enjoy a busy schedule of rehearsals, concerts, weddings, fundraisers, with the occasional competition and trip away. If you’d like to sing with us, come along on any Monday evening to join in or just listen. No audition necessary and you don’t even have to be able to read music!
We usually enter a few competitive festivals each year and started 2019 by singing in The Mrs Sunderland Festival in Huddersfield. We weren’t placed that year but next up was the Eskdale Music Festival in Whitby and we were delighted to win the two classes that we entered, the Ladies Choir Class and the “Christmas in April” class and came away with two shiny silver cups!
We have produced 2 CD’s, one in 2017 entitled “Happy Together” and the second one “See Amid the Winter’s Snow”, which we recorded in conjunction with Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir. These are still available to purchase from this website.
We love singing at weddings and private parties… If you know anyone wanting to enhance their special day, direct them to our “Wedding Page”…https://penistoneladieschoir.org.uk/wedding-day-choir/
Following a strange couple of years we are delighted to be rehearsing and performing again, with our new Musical Director Joseph Shaw with support from our ever-talented accompanist, Yvonne Woffenden!
We are happy to be singing and making music together again, with some fantastic concerts planned for 2024. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates on news and events…
